Part-time Janitor

Bulkley Valley Christian School has a position available for an individual interested in providing janitorial assistance for approximately 13 hours per week.  The successful candidate would be:

  • A committed Christian who supports Christian Education at BVCS,
  • Able to work with staff and other custodial workers.

Preference will be given to candidates who have prior experience in institutional janitorial work and / or have obtained their Custodial Worker Certificate.

Posting for an SEA/Intervenor Position

Posting Date: November 15, 2011

Closing Date: January 31, 2012

Position:  Full-time Special Education Assistant – Deafblind Intervenor

30 hours per week, working with a male Deafblind grade 6 student and possibly working with other students with mobility and independence concerns.

Pay Rate: approximately $16-21/hr depending on experience and qualifications

Start date:  September 2012, or late August if required.

Position Summary:

To find a committed Christian to work together in a team setting to facilitate language expression and comprehension, support the use of personal hearing aids, adapt and modify teaching materials, begin pre-braille activities, conduct assisted meal-time responsibilities, compile and update student records, and monitor student behaviour.  Personal care (i.e. toileting, assisted meal-time, lifting, physiotherapy, etc.) responsibilities are also included in this position.

Qualifications:

Preference will be given to an SEA/Intervenor

  • who has deafblind intervention training (Intro to Deafblindness and Intro to Intervention) from the Provincial Outreach Program for students with deafblindness or be willing to take the training when it is available;
  • who has some experience working with children with multiple sensory dysfunctions;
  • who is willing to modify classroom materials and activities as required;
  • who has experience/knowledge of or is willing to receive training in working with unique communication techniques for deafblind students (i.e. tactile calendar system, pre-braille, and augmentative communication systems);
  • who will be required to assist with specialized programming under the direction of the Deaf/Blind District Partner, the Provincial Outreach Consultant, and the Teacher of the Visually Impaired; and
  • who is physically able to carry out all responsibilities including personal care.
